Sugar Beet

HLB continuously develops new knowledge in the field of plant and soil health and applies it throughout the entire agricultural chain. Due to the unique combination of research, diagnosis and advice, we have a wealth of data and practical knowledge.

Nematodes

Trichodorides, stem nematodes (Ditylenchus dipsaci) and most Meloidogyne species in particular can cause damage in sugar beets. In addition, the beet cyst nematode occurs on many grounds and this must be taken into account when choosing a variety. Other, such as root lesion nematodes, hardly reproduce on beets. Sugar beets are therefore a welcome addition to the cultivation plan from the point of view of controlling nematodes on a lot of sand and valley soils.

Moulds

In sugar beets, above-ground and underground infestation by moulds can cause a lot of damage. The beet itself is on average somewhat less sensitive, but it is completely dependent on sufficient green and healthy foliage for growth and sugar production. Cercospora in particular is a problem in sugar beet cultivation. This fungus mainly affects the leaves and depending on the severity, the circumstances and the crop stage, a decision can be made whether to intervene if necessary. A good and quick diagnosis is paramount.
